CFDA Takes Stage

For the 50th anniversary of the CFDA, the awards ceremony was filmed and is being broadcast on Style.com, and is still available to watch by clicking here. I have to say it was an absolute joy watching such a meaningful event with such inspiring people. One thing is certain: the fashion industry knows how to throw an event.
The show begins with models sporting looks from a broad array of designs, following with Diane Von Furstenberg welcoming everyone to the event. With a light loss of her hair, her beaming smiles sets the tone for the night. She does so even more when she excitedly states, "Live from Lincoln Center!" to introduce the host, Seth Meyers. Seth, along with a select few of the other celebrities who announced the winners, seemed a bit nervous and tense as they blindly stared into the dark audience that consisted of one of the most open-minded, yet judgmental crowds - the fashion industry.
One of the highlights for me was John Waters accepting awards for both Rei Kawakubo and Johnny Depp. His words were as creative and tailored as both of his unique blazer jackets. He just has a way of speaking that makes you feel like English must be your second language because his statements are so fluid. The night moved on to announce the Menswear Designer of the Year, Billy Reid, as well as the Womenswear Designers of the Year, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
Finally one of my favorite moments of the night was Anna Wintour's speech introducing Tommy Hilfiger to accept his Lifetime Achievement Award. Her speeches are a verbal Vogue editorial, filled with brilliant imagery and touching moments many are unaware of. It was a special night, and it's equally special that Style.com is broadcasting the show for a select amount of time. It is well worth it to check the video out.

(Shown in order: Diane Von Furstenberg, Seth Meyers, John Waters, Matt Bomer, Billy Reid, Kenneth Cole, Steven Kolb, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Anna Wintour, and Tommy Hilfiger.
